Woot!
He was a nice, young chap & a sci-fi fan too, so we chatted about SGA, Spn & Trek, etc while he sorted out a new modem!
Oh, it's so good to be back!
Thank you for all the supportive hugs & commiserations - it's like losing a limb almost, isn't it? *g*
Thank you also to
nieninque121 &

Our broadband has died. :-(
I'm stuck with dial-up... omg it's so slow! So I won't be around much until they've sent an engineer to sort out the probem.
It would happen on the day I'm submitting my
smallfandom_bb first draft for the deadline too.
Sorry - I'll answer emails, comments, etc when I can!

18 May 2009 06:06 pmI've been working on a story for the last week. It's at over 7,000 words. I was saving my work today to the flash drive I keep it on & it said it couldn't save. Word then closed down. My fic has now gone. There's a temporary doc .tmp on my flash drive but it won't open.
I'm sick over this. I don't think I can recreate what I've done.
Can anyone help me please?
I've just managed to open the .tmp file in Notepad & recreate it from there.
I am so relieved I can't even say. I was just sitting there too horrified to even cry before.
Jeez - this is a lesson to back up in multiple places every single time I save!

Buddy, running & Dreamwidth
1 May 2009 03:14 pmMy happy meme may be over but I'm having such a lovely day with so many happy-making moments. :-)
The bluebells are simply gorgeous in the wood & Bud & I had such a lovely walk this morning. Though the pesky little devil did get into one of the horse fields & refused to come out until he was good & ready! *g*
Then I went for a really great run - along the towpath out into the fields & then circling back through the country lanes. A buzzard landed not twenty feet in front of me!
I'd only planned to run 6 miles but missed my turn off the towpath & ended going a little farther - but I'd've missed seeing the buzzard if I'd gone my planned route. *g*
I did 7.25 miles in the end & it felt good. I also tested out my new running shorts (I love getting new kit!) They're Asics & incredibly light. They're a tad on the big size (I should have ordered the XS not the S it seems) but because they're lycra-style technical fabric they tend to mould to your body anyway so there was no rubbing or discomfort.
Here they are if anyone's looking for new kit - I can thoroughly recommend them.
Oh, I noticed a spider while I was drying my hair. It wasn't too big & so I felt confident I could catch it on a piece of paper & free it out of the window. So off I went to open the window & then when I got back - no spider but Bud smacking his chops! He'd eaten it! Oh, Buddy! LOL
There's a lot of Dreamwidth chatter on my flist at the moment. I have opened an account - I'm Bluespirit there (nice to get my actual name!) if anyone wants to friend me (or whatever the DW term is!) but at the moment I don't have any plans to post there. I'm hoping that people will cross-post & I can still catch up with my flist here on LJ (I'm a dinosaur & don't like change) but I've got the account just in case everyone does decamp & I'm the last one standing! *g*
I really don't want to lose touch with anyone.
*hugs*

Today's Giveaway of the Day is a video converter that let's you convert files for the iPod (amongst other things.)
Although I have some conversion software that I bought a while back, I decided to give this one a go (hey, it's free!) I've just converted an SGA ep that wouldn't convert properly using my old software (the sound kept going out of synch) & it seems to be working perfectly with the new conversion. I've only tried it with this one file but it was quick & easy to use & I'm pleased so far.
You have to DL & activate the software on the day of giveaway for it to work, so I thought I'd give a heads-up in case anyone wanted to give it a go.
Wondershare Video Converter Platinum
A very happy birthday to the lovely
dopeydora_67. I hope you have a wonderful day!

You go away for a few days...
16 Apr 2009 11:01 amI haven't been around online much for the past week or so (RL stuff - I'll be back next week) but I popped in today for a quick look & my flist seems to be full of Dreamwidth.
Um, what is this? Is everyone leaving lj? Should I be worried?
I like lj, I have a permanent account. Are people going to stop posting here?
I feel like someone changed the locks while I was gone! *g*

Camera help please?
24 Nov 2008 06:32 pmI want to buy my Mom a digital camera for Christmas.
It needs to be slimline, have a large viewfinder/display & be very, very simple to use.
My Mom is seventy & a bit of a techno-phobe but she's seen our Canon Ixus 75 & really likes it.
I would like to get her something similar in design but with fewer functions & settings. I mean she's never going to take a video or do macro photography or anything like that. She just wants to be able to point it & press the button - taking pictures on holiday & at family gatherings (& of Buddy, of course!)
Can anyone recommend anything please?
I'm looking to spend around £100.
Thanks, folks!

Tech question
23 Jun 2008 05:26 pmIs there a way to add something/do something to a URL so the site doesn't know which country you're coming from?
It's just that I want to watch the vids at CMT.com & it won't let me & I was thinking it's 'cus I'm in the UK maybe?
I'm sure I've seen something about this on my flist but can't remember what it is.
I want to watch the new Blake Shelton vid & it won't let me. :-(

McShep fic & broadband problems
18 Oct 2007 09:56 amI have a couple of quick McShep recs:~
lantean_drift has written a gorgeous fic. There's snark & porn & the boys just being their adorable selves. ♥
Pros and Cons by
lantean_drift
lavvyan is writing a brilliant, funny, sexy, totally cracked out fic. It's a WiP but is being updated very quickly & is a fabulous read. I don't want to say more & spoil the surprise. Just go & read it - it's great!

I've also finished another of my time-stamp prompts - only one more left now!
almost_clara asked for Still the thunder three weeks after the scene on the pier. What happened next?
Here's the result!
Rodney spun around, eyes wide and startled. “Jesus, Colonel! Tone down the stealth-ninja act, will you? I like my heart beating just as it is, thank you.”
It's called 'Make the sun want to shine' & is the epilogue to 'Still the thunder'.
~
I'm still having problems with my broadband.
*shakes fist at Virgin Media*
I keep losing my connection & despite notifying them 2 days ago, I still haven't received any response.
I'm seriously looking at switching providers - & taking our satellite TV & phone elsewhere too. I'd prefer not to but if Virgin can't look after their existing customers then why should I stay? They need to get their fingers out now!
So, I'm just saying - if I vanish off the face of the internet, you'll know what's happened. Grrrr.
