Yikes! Everyone seems to be going to DW!
I have an account there which I haven't updated in a couple of years, so I'm importing my LJ entries over there & I'm also trying to post this entry there & crosspost it to LJ. (Hope it works).
I'm staying with LJ (& hoping to do the x-posting thingy), but if you're migrating to DW & would like to stay in touch, please add me to your circle. I'm [personal profile] bluespirit.
I also have a mirror of my fic & art LJ - starshinedreams - at DW: [community profile] starshinedreams.
Let's keep in touch!

I've had the most fabulous, magical weekend!
On Saturday we went to see Fantastic Beasts - which was awesome! - & then on Sunday, we went to the HP Studio Tour for Hogwarts in the Snow!!
It was amazing - a day of fun, laughter, Nifflers, me definitely not buying any more cuddly creatures (peer pressure!), snowy gorgeousness, & getting to spend time with the best friends in the world! ♥

I don't have a pic of us all wearing our robes yet, but here are a couple of me proving that I definitely did not buy any kind of cuddly to go with my Fang & Hedwig! Nope, absolutely not!
Oh, how did Buckbeak get there? *g*

Finding a fantastic beast... )

A while back, I made [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift a set of Hogwarts' robes as a Christmas present.
Well, during this year, I've also been making robes for other friends as their birthdays have come around, & on Sunday we're all going to the Harry Potter Studio Tour again - but this time, wearing our robes! \o/

There are 8 sets of robes & we have all 4 houses represented:
Hufflepuff: Me
Gryffindor: [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift, [livejournal.com profile] xanthe, KB, S
Slytherin: [livejournal.com profile] flyingnorth, [livejournal.com profile] battyoldflapper
Ravenclaw: [livejournal.com profile] carnelianred

They're fully-lined & I've made wand pockets inside so that we'll all have a place to keep our wands as we're walking around. *g*

It's going to be 'Hogwarts in the Snow' when we go - I can't wait! \o/
*Snoopy dances*

Thank you to everyone for your thoughts & kindness - you're all amazing & I feel so lucky to have you in my life.
You all make me so happy!
Thank you.

I had the best time at my annual writing weekend!
It was lovely to catch up with friends (some of whom I only see once a year) & to chat & laugh.  There was a *lot* of laughing!

I'm getting packed to go away for my annual writing weekend.
I've known this group of lovely ladies for years & years, & this is always a fun time.
I'm not an active writer anymore - I just about manage to write my requisite story for the weekend - but I still love discussing writing, characters, plot development, etc.  Plus, I just love spending time with friends!
So, this definitely a 'happy'! *g*

I hope everyone else has a lovely weekend, too!

A couple of people asked to see my new skirt when I'd finished making it, so here it is.
I think that the fabric is just so cute!

Scottie dogs! \o/ )

I made a couple of adjustments to the pattern - I used an invisible zip instead of a normal one as I think it gives a much smoother silhouette, plus it just seems a bit more professsional looking.  I also added a lining - using a pale blue silky lining fabric -  so that it didn't stick to my tights as I walked. *g*

It was the sweet & beautiful [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift's birthday over the weekend, & we went out for a lovely afternoon tea at our local vineyard, giving me a chance to wear my new skirt!  In fact, it was a fabulous weekend all around as the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] xanthe had come up to visit & so there was much chatting & laughter!

I've recently been working on a really fun project - making a set of Gryffindor robes for [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift!

I found a post with an outline of how to go about it - but it was more a set of diary notes than a step-by-step tutorial.  I had to adapt an existing cloak pattern - reshaping the hood & sleeves & giving it a full lining (with the sleeves, hood & facings in the appropriate Gryffindor red.)  It took some figuring out, but I'm quite pleased (actually - pretty darn pleased) with the result! *g*

My current project is a sweet, little skirt for myself made with this very cute Scottie dog print! ♥

Fandom has lost another truly spectacular individual. The wonderful & unique Zen - [livejournal.com profile] vagabondage - has gone, leaving the world a less vibrant & kickass place.

We met online nearly twenty years ago in Highlander fandom. We had crazy, fantastic times in the RSM (Renegade Slash Militia) & I'm so happy that we actually got to meet in person a couple of times, too.

She was an amazing person & I'm going to miss her.
I won't say sleep well - I know that she's already tearing the place up & having fun.

A sad loss

Fandom has lost a colourful, sweet soul today.
Rest well, [livejournal.com profile] moonlightmead.

As promised, here are a few pics from my fabulous birthday surprise visit to 'The Making of Harry Potter' in Leavesden. \o/

Firstly, I was picked up by the Hogwarts Express!  Complete with owl on the dash & the stereo blaring out 'Something wicked this way comes'! *g*

And then I was whisked away to Hogwarts for a day of fun, laughter & shenanigans!

What a fabulous, amazing, awesome day. I have the sweethest, kindest, most thoughtful friends in the world! ♥
Thank you [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift, [livejournal.com profile] xanthe, [livejournal.com profile] battyoldflapper, [livejournal.com profile] saffron1 & KB (& also [livejournal.com profile] carnelianred & J who couldn't be with us.)
bluespirit: (SGA omg!Joe)
It's my birthday on Saturday & earlier in the week, I got quite a surprise: I received my Hogwarts letter! Beautifully typed on headed note paper & sealed with a Hogwarts wax seal, too.
Over the next few days, I also received (all via owl - well, they just appeared in the house! *g*) a howler reminder, my house information & shirt (Pottormore sorted me into Hufflepuff) & finally the details of the adventure.
So, tomorrow, [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift, [livejournal.com profile] xanthe, [livejournal.com profile] battyoldflapper, [livejournal.com profile] saffron1 & KB will be escorting me to the Warner Brothers' Studio Tour in Leavesden for a day of squeeing over everything Harry Potter! \o/
I am so excited, & also so very grateful - I have the sweetest, kindest, most generous friends. (And Mr B, too - who I think may have 'helped' the owl deliver my letters!)

I finally managed to write my story for my annual writing weekend in Sept! (I sent it in with 5 hours to spare! LOL)
I wrote the first draft last week while Bud & I had a super week by the sea with various lovely friends including [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift, [livejournal.com profile] xanthe, [livejournal.com profile] carnelianred, [livejournal.com profile] saffron1 & [livejournal.com profile] battyoldflapper.
We hired a beautiful house in Southwold, only 5 mins walk from the beach. It was smashing & so relaxing.
While there, I shocked [livejournal.com profile] saffron1 by mentioning that I'd never read any Harry Potter (& I've only seen the first 2 films. *g*)  Being the only non-Potter person there, I decided to give The Philosopher's Stone a go... I'm now halfway through The Order of the Phoenix!!  I'm absolutely loving them!

Here are a few of pics of Bud enjoying his holibobs. ♥

my gorgeous boy... )

To all of my lovely US friends (& everyone else!)...

I'm thankful to have you all in my life!
bluespirit: (Lord Peter Wimsey)
I've just spent a fabulous weekend with my lovely [livejournal.com profile] xanthe.
As usual, there was non-stop chatting & laughing (& a fair amount of cake eating, too! *g*)
We also met up with the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] gloria1 & [livejournal.com profile] flyingnorth for a brilliant 'chat' which actually lasted for 5 hours until the coffee shop closed down around us! LOL

Oh, & the weekend gave me the opportunity to test drive my new handbag that I've just made.  My homage to the impeccable Lord Peter & his lovely lady, Harriet...

I mocked up the bookcover graphic in the style of the old Penguin books & printed it onto transfer paper which I ironed onto my fabric.
I then used that as the panel for the front of the bag.  I'm really quite chuffed with how it turned out. :)

I just noticed that Dreamspinner is having a sale - 30% off!
It's only on certain authors, but luckily the fabulous Sarah Madison (our very own [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison) is included.
So, if you haven't read Crying for the Moon or Unspeakable Words or any of her other awesome novels, then pop over now & snap up some real bargains. (Hurry though - the sale ends today: 17th May.)
And once you've read, please do leave a review - not just at Dreamspinner, you can copy & paste your thoughts at Amazon & Goodreads, etc too!

Happy Saturday, folks!
bluespirit: (Buddy yay)
What a smashing weekend!
Mr B & I went to the 'Cake & Bake Show' in Manchester on Saturday.  It was a great event with lots of demonstrations from various well-known chefs, including some of the Great British Bake-Off winners, as well as stalls selling all kinds of cake paraphernalia - & cake to eat!  Yum!  We shared a gorgeous slice of traditional Caribbean rum cake made by a husband & wife team that was simply divine! (Now I'm hunting for a recipe because I need to eat more of that! *g*)

Then on Sunday, we drove down to London so that I could meet the sweet & lovely [livejournal.com profile] hilde for lunch while Mr B went off & did his own thing.
It was so lovely to see [livejournal.com profile] hilde again & we had a very long - & very chatty *g* - lunch discussing lots of fandom things. :)
As Hilde is a bit (a bit!) of an Angliophile, I'd made her a Union Jack inspired cushion that hopefully will squash down enough to fit in her case!

Oh, & I've used some of that gorgeous black lab fabric that Mr B surprised me with to make a little bag that I took for a test drive this weekend. :)
It has an extra long strap so that I can wear it across my body.

The colour of the lining matches the collar of the labs on the fabric. I also included several inside pockets for my phone, Oyster card, lipstick, etc.

A couple of buttons just for some fun detail. :)

I hope that everyone had a lovely weekend!
bluespirit: (Buddy - hullooo?)
Bud is very 'helpful' when I'm cutting out fabric on the floor.
He likes to make sure that none magically flies away. *g*

Honestly, I turned my back for a minute & this is what I found!
Oh, Buddy! ♥

I've been making little name tags for my sewing projects (with a fabric pen) but I found some places online that will make proper tags with whatever you want on them.
So, here's the 'Chez Buddy' label. *g*

[livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift & [livejournal.com profile] saffron_1 - I can swap yours out, if you like. :)

We're very busy this upcoming weekend - on Sat we're going up to the Cake & Bake Show in Manchester. Yay!  And on Sun we're going down to London & Mr B will go off & do his own thing while I meet the lovely [livejournal.com profile] hilde for lunch. Woot!
Because of the busy weekend, I needed to get my long training run done early & so I did 9 miles today.  The run was good but I may have gone a little faster than I should have. I'm feeling a tad stiff now - time for a nice bath, I think. *g*

Hope everyone is having a lovely Thursday!
bluespirit: (Buddy silly)
We hosted a little 'Paws for Tea' party at Chez Buddy last Sunday in aid of The Blue Cross animal charity.
Eighteen assorted family & friends (including the fabulous
[livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift, [livejournal.com profile] battyoldflapper & [livejournal.com profile] saffron_1) joined in the fun, & there was much chatting, laughing, tea drinking & cake scoffing.  And Bud snuggling, of course! *g*
We also had a 'Lucky Dip' which helped raise a few more pounds.  Thanks to the generosity of all present, we raised £125.60 for The Blue Cross! Woo-hoo! That's enough to vaccinate 25 kittens or microchip 6 litters of puppies or provide veterinary care for a dog for the length of its stay with the Blue Cross.
I'm so grateful to everyone who came along. :)

It also gave me the perfect excuse to 'get my bake on' *g* & here are some pics from the day (mainly of cakes & a certain handsome someone!)

pics this way... )

I really enjoyed putting this on & would love to do it again.
I also have to make special mention of Mr [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star who valiantly spent the afternoon making cups of tea for a house full of ladies! :)
bluespirit: (SGA John dress blues)
I'm hosting a tea party, 'Paws for Tea', in a few weeks in aid of The Blue Cross animal charity.
I've got some cookie cutters (including one that's dog shaped - naturally! *g*) but the only problem is - I don't have a recipe to use to make cookies that I can cut out! LOL
Does anyone have a rec please? :)

And in super exciting news - the fabulously talented & just all around fabulous [personal profile] sgamadison  has released her latest novel!

The Boys of Summer

(Just click on the link for all the info.)

I've just bought my copy & am so looking forward to settling down for a nice, long read!
