“Wait, what do you mean ‘I’ve got a ranch in Montana, how about we go there while we’re on leave’?” Rodney said incredulously, his hands sketching something presumably ranch - or possibly Montana - shaped in the air.

“Well,” John grinned, with deliberate slowness, “I mean that I’ve got a ranch in Montana and I was thinking that maybe we could go there when we’re Earthside next month.”

I can't believe it but I've actually managed to finish my story for the McShep HappyFic Challenge! Yay!
This fic has basically taken over my life for the last month - I've been waking at 4am virtually every morning with the story going through my mind. In the end I've just given in & have been getting up at about 5 some days (after trying & failing to get back to sleep) to write! It's also the longest story I've written in this fandom at ~ 14,000 words. (Hopefully they're good words. *g*)
It's now going through beta & a US check (don't want any creeping Briticisms!)

So, yay! Look out on Sat 1st Nov for happy!fic. ♥



I'm so excited to read everyone's lovely, happy McShep stories! After the news of cancellation & some of the more dubious plot choices from TPTB, I think we all need a great big dollop of our boys ending up happily ever after!

I thought I'd make a little update about my McShep Happy!fest fic.
The story I'd originally planned to write developed a life of its own & very quickly a fairly straight forward established relationship grew into a more angsty, first-time with pining!John & oblivious!Rodney (though still with lots of happy moments & the inevitable happy ending. *g*) Of course, this really threw me behind schedule.
It's currently standing at about 10,000 words & I reckon I'm about two-thirds done. I'm absolutely loving writing it - though kind of hating it a little bit too as I've become obsessed & it's affecting my sleep! The problem is that we go on holiday tomorrow - possibly until Friday (depends on the weather & how Bud adapts to the cottage.) Unfortunately the posting deadline is Nov 1st - the day after.
It really doesn't look like I'll be finished - not edited, betaed & polished the way I would want. If that's the case then I'm not going to rush it & spoil what I think is turning out to be quite a good story. I'm so fussy about meeting commitments & deadlines but I don't want to forfeit the quality of the story. I'm still hoping that I can make it but it's unlikely. :-(
I don't know if there's any leeway with the posting deadline - I have enquired but haven't heard back (& don't want to pester the organisers.)

In other writing news, I've received my asssignment for sga_santa & it's very 'me'. Yay! I'll get my thinking cap on once I'm done with the current fic.

I'm just popping in & taking a breather from writing what I hope will be my McShep happy!fest fic - though I have a feeling it may not be finished in time. :-(
(On the plus side I'm loving writing the story & it's turning into a much longer piece than I'd originally intended.)

However, just had to do a quick heads-up. xanthelj has begun posting her latest fabulous, epic love story in the Coming Home Universe.

I'm working hard on my McShep happy!fest fic but it's spiralling into a much longer story than I'd originally intended (damn you, plot!) The deadline is Nov 1st but we go on holiday the week before that so I really need to get it done before I go to give my betas a chance. I'm really loving writing the fic & want to do it justice.
Basically this is me saying that I may not be around much - bar popping in to upload the usual stuff - for a while.

I've been trying to work on my McShep Happy!fest fic & it's just not flowing. I have it all planned out & know what's going to happen but the first scene is just sticking, something's not right & I think I need to scrap it & start again (which is hardly a waste - I've only written a few halting paragraphs. *sigh*) Plus it's supposed to be a happy fic & my head isn't in the right place at the mo (RL issues that I won't bore you with).

So, to take my mind off it, I've been reworking a fic I wrote a while back (Carson was still blessedly 'splodey!tumour free & not a clone - that's how long ago!) It was for a project for the writing group I belong to & following con-crit & discussion at our weekend last month, I've made a few changes & now feel like posting. So I have. *g*

It's difficult to categorise what this fic is - it might seem like a pwp but it really, really isn't; sex is the least of it. Honestly.
Anyway, if you fancy a look:~

I'm clearly insane, as I only seem to be capable of writing snippets lately, but I've still signed myself up for the McShep Happy Fic Challenge. I couldn't help myself - happy!McShep = Love! ♥
I mean 7,500 words of the boys being happy by 1st Nov can't be that hard, right?

I've written things waaay longer in the past (dim & distant though it may be!) so surely I can do it.

Buddy's been in the wars a bit, I'm afraid. It was torrential rain when we went up the top woods this morning but he was tearing about like a maniac & having a fabulous time. However when he came back to me for the last time, as we were ready to head home, I noticed a bloody gash on his muzzle, extending up over his eye (not touching the eye, thank goodness.) Once I got him home & cleaned it up, it actually wasn't that bad - he's lost about a two inch strip of fur & has a nasty graze but it doesn't seem to be bothering him & should heal okay. I've put some antiseptic cream on it & will keep an eye on it, of course. I think he may have caught it on some barbed wire, 'cus he was in & out of some of the fields as we made our way round the perimeter of the wood.
Oh, Buddy!
He's curled up in his blue bed sleeping off the excitement now. ♥
