I've been watching the coverage on the TV & have felt so awful that something like this has happened, so useless.
I'm incredibly relieved to hear that suzecarol & sockkpuppett are okay & my heart goes out to everyone who has suffered in this terrible event.

I wanted to do something to help.
I always keep some money in my PayPal account that I regard as 'fun money' - to buy zines, fandom stuff or whatever. Well, I wanted to put it to a better use & luckily melina123 mentioned a relief charity that accepted PayPal (most don't seem to.) The charity is also an animal charity - it's providing emergency shelter for people's pets in the aftermath of the disaster. I've donated my zine money to them. :-)

Everyone who has watched the news even cursorily is familiar with the Katrina disaster, the worst storm to hit the United States in a century, and all of us have been touched on some level by that loss. In the face of such devastation, it's normal to feel helpless, to be certain that no assistance we offer means anything. It's easy to tell ourselves that thousands of people donating five dollars apiece can add up, but it's more encouraging to see it. So, post the message below (or a similar one that fits your needs) in your journal:~

I have donated at least five dollars to a charity organization for relief for residents of the Gulf. If you respond to this post letting me know that you have also, I will write you a drabble.

This meme works on the honour system. Please make your donations and complete your gifts as promptly as you can, to get aid quickly to the people who need it. Thank you!

If you're not sure where to donate (it doesn't have to be the charity that I donated to) then you can try American Red Cross or Network for Good.
