bluespirit: (John Barrowman Zaza)
[personal profile] bluespirit

I checked this out because I saw that John Barrowman was the guest star:

Watson & Oliver (BBC - Monday evenings) or here on iPlayer.

JB is absolutely hilarious - totally sending himself up - & the two girls (with all their various funny characters) are really good.  It's a little bit hit & miss - as most sketch shows are - but there's definitely more hit than miss, for me.  *g*
I'll be watching the next ep & hoping they can maintain the quality. :)

If you only want to see JB being completely awesome *g* then check out time stamps 14:50 & 24:04 (song).

ETA:

Just found this cute behind the scenes vid (on youtube) of JB filming his guest spot. :)

And here's the song on youtube - for anyone who can't view iPlayer.

Thanks for the links! I like seeing John Barrowman in other stuff... a couple of weeks ago, I was glad to see him in Hustle! :)

It is great to see him in other things. I was lucky enough to see him in the theatre a few years ago & he was amazing.

I loved the little 'ting' whenever he winked at the camera. LOL

It was a really clever show - but JB was the highlight! (I don't do heterosexuality with such a cheeky grin!!)

Thanks for the behind-the-scenes find, too - that was fascinating!

I hadn't expected it to be so funny ('comedy' shows seldom are *g*) but this made me laugh out loud! And yes - JB was the highlight. (Have you got an older brother?) LOL

Oh dear, that was so much fun! I knew he could sing but I didn't know he could *really* sing! And it was so much fun seeing both the BTS stuff (he really has a feel for what he wants and how he wants to deliver it, doesn't he?) and the hilarity of letting himself be the big joke here--with such STYLE. :-)

He's amazing onstage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrfk8weTWTM&feature=related). Not at all what I expected.

Very talented--pretty amazing here in this link and I have to say, the comments were by and far both amusing and accurate. :-)

weird. Your comment is not showing up here, though it did in my inbox...

I think this journal screens unfriended comments. When I had a high- volume journal, i did too.

Hmmm, it was screened as a possibly suspicious comment - because of the link, I suppose.
I hadn't realised it was set to do that! :)

Yay! I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
I saw him in the theatre in La Cage aux Folles a couple of years ago & he was absolutely amazing. He actually made his name in musical theatre & the TV stuff with Captain Jack came later.
And yes - I love the way that he sends himself up like that! LOL

I wonder if he misses it? There has to be a very different kind of energy involved in live performances verses filmed. Thank you so much for sharing it!

He does still perform on stage - I think he does a 'John Barrowman in concert' sort of thing. He does dramatic theatre, too - we saw him in 'A Few Good Men' with Rob Lowe in the West End a few years ago.
I don't know if he has any more musical theatre planned, but I wouldn't be surprised. He really is amazing on stage. (And I'm not particularly a JB fangirl - I just really do think he's so talented. *g*)

He does panto ever year, which is short for pantomime and has nothing to do with mimes at all. It's a british tradition and the whole family goes to the theatre around Christmas/New Year's time. I experieced it for the first time back in January and wrote a long and detailed report about "Jack and the Beanstalk" here: http://dieastra.livejournal.com/51706.html

Basically, it's lots of fun. There is singing and dancing and all kind of silly stuff, also some jokes which fly totally over the kids heads but the adults love them. John absolutely shines on stage and I agree, it is where he belongs, in front of a live audience.

At the Phoenix convention recently he mentioned that he still gets lots of offers for Broadway or other shows, just doesn't have the time to do them at the moment, as he does so much else stuff in America at the moment. But I hope one day he might return to it. Until then, we have panto and yes, also the concert tours, which also always are great fun - especially the stories he tells in between songs. He does not only tell them, he acts them out and shows pictures of the family. He really is an entertainer with a captial E.

(Sorry for invanding your LJ [livejournal.com profile] bluespirit_star and commenting on old posts, but I have to always follow a John Barrowman tag when I see one)

I didn't like any of the show, except for the bits with JB in! To be honest I sometimes find him a bit over the top when he's just being his onscreen persona, but I love his willingness to take the mickey out of himself - and his voice is amazing! I saw him in musical theatre a few times, too, and he was utterly fantastic on stage.

Thank you for posting this - I'd been meaning to go and find it online so I could show the husband why I was honking with laughter on Monday night!
