Danny's from Jersey.
So, what sports teams would he support?
We know he plays/played basketball, & he seemed happy taking Grace to the football game with the Team. Would there be baseball, too?
What teams play in Jersey or would he be a NY Yankees fan or something?
It's... research. :)

Bitter disappointment this morning. A parcel arrived & I thought it was my 'Oyster Farmer' dvd & tore it open with much excitement & joy.
Disaster! It was a science dvd Mr B had ordered for school.
*wails*
Yes, I know I have a DL version that I can watch again but I want my super perfect dvd version of The O'Lough please!
I just adored that film & haven't been able to stop thinking about it since. ♥

Heh. We're rewatching the 'Ocean's Trilogy' at the mo - just the last one to go. How adorable is Scott? ♥

I remember watching the New Jersey Devils when I lived in the States. It was the first time I'd watched any hockey at all. I never understood the appeal of the game, as "all" their matches ended up in these huge fights, men piled up high on the ice as they fought...LOL

Can't help you with what he would watch, though. Although I do remember there being quite a bit of rivalry between NYC and NJ. He does sound pretty patriotic, so he might be rooting for a NJ team, like the NJ Jackals. I don't know if they are in the same league as the Yankees, though.

True - he's all about Jersey, is our Danny! *g&

Thanks for the ideas, Hilde. I'll do some digging around. :)

I love the Ocean's trilogy. I don't think Brad Pitt has ever looked better, and he and Clooney just burn up the screen with chemistry!

This is just my two cents and you can take it for what it's worth - which is to say, strictly from my POV... I think the one place you find team loyalty is the NCAA or college sports as far as hometown teams. In the pro leagues, football, baseball, basketball, with free agency and the disparity in team ownership, there's not as much pulling for the home team as there once was. Danny may hate the Yankees (a lot of people do) but love the Mets, or he may be a bigger fan of the Cincinnati Reds because of their players. However, if it was a rivalry of sorts or established rivalry, I'm sure Danny would go with the home team and may take the side of one team simply because Steve is pulling for the other. ;D The home teams being the New Jersey Nets (basketball) and the New Jersey Devils (hockey). I hope this makes sense.

As for the sports themselves, I could see Danny liking all sports. Even with his size, he probably played high school football and/or baseball. He might also be interested in hockey or boxing. Hope I haven't totally confuzzled you.

I can watch Oyster Farmer on demand on Netflix, so I think I know what I'll be doing later this evening.

This is great - thanks so much, D.
It's more a background 'fact' so I don't have to go into any detail but this has helped a lot!

Oh, I hope you enjoy 'Oyster Farmer'. It's a very low-key kind of film with a streak of black humour - very much in the vein of most Australian cinema (which I love!)

Background is very important - even if it's only in the head of the author. I agree.

I love Aussie films, too, and am really looking forward to this one. Have you seen The Boys are Back w/Clive Owen? Pinic at Hanging Rock, Rabbit Proof Fence... they're films that stay with you like you say - very hard to forget (not to mention beautifully filmed).

He tells his orthopedist that he played baseball in HS, so he would absolutely root for one of the Yankees/Mets and despise the other -- I will consult a local baseball fan to judge which.

Both the NY Giants AND the NY Jets are hosted at the Meadowlands Stadium in NJ. He would be a fan of one or the other, but not both -- consult a football fan to choose which.

He would also be a NJ Nets fan, *probably* -- though it's possible he's a Knicks fan, claiming they're better.

Thanks for all of this!
I don't need too much detail for my current project, but this will most definitely be of use in the future, too. :)

What [livejournal.com profile] mecurtin said! I live in central Jersey, about 45 minutes to an hour south of Danny, and I definitely agree with this.

When choosing NY teams, it's a toss up. You could go either way and be right, and the rivalries are epic. There's probably a bit of family tradition involved in all this as well. If Danny's father loved the Yankees, it's likely he does as well. According to my mom, most people from that area are Yankees fans... unless they're die-hard Mets fans. The Yankees are the team everyone loves to hate, except for the people who love them beyond all else. Not so sure about the football teams, except for the family tradition part. My family are Giants fans, as are most people I know. Both play in the brand new stadium in the Medowlands in Secaucus, NJ (they used to play at Giants Stadium, which is across the parking lot from the new one).

Danny seems like he has a lot of Jersey pride. I imagine he'd take the Nets over the Knicks, if only because they're a NJ team (currently playing at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, though they're moving to Brooklyn sooner rather than later from what I understand). They aren't doing very well now, but they were fantastic a few years ago! I know absolutely nothing about hockey, other than we're the NJ Devils, and they play (played?) at what's now the Izod Center, which is across the parking lot from the football stadium.

Then again, loyalty to professional sports teams can supersede geographical location. My friend from Iowa lives for the Atlanta Braves (baseball). Being a Jersey girl, though, I like to think Danny supports us :)

Ugh... how do I know so much about sports? I don't even like sports! Apologies for the rambly comment. As hard as I'm trying to get out of here, I do <3 NJ so!

Wow, loads of great background - thanks! :)
I actually only need a fairly general thing for my current project (& I'm going with Danny being a Nets fan, thank you!) but I know this will all be really useful for another project I have on the back burner. \o/

You're welcome of course! I can't wait to see what you have cooking!

And let me know if you need any more Jersey anything. If I don't know the answer off hand, I can check with my parents, esp my dad for sports stuff, or send you in the right direction at least!

I've just posted it - it's a bit of silly art with only the slightest sport mention. But I like to get the details right. *g*

Thank you so much for the generous offer! I'll definitely be calling on you! :)

most people from that area are Yankees fans... unless they're die-hard Mets fans

Exactly! And the family tradition thing definitely is the most important element. Yankee fans are used to winning, Mets fans are used to being the scrappy underdogs -- so in *personality* Danny is a Mets fan, but that doesn't mean much against family tradition.

This fandom may end up needing a squad of Jersey-pickers, because I've seen some pretty wtf stuff already. I live in the greater Trenton/Princeton area myself ...

I'm from the shore area (No! It's not the MTV show!!!) but my family's all from the Newark/Elizabeth area. I'm a huge fan of the show, not so much in the fandom, but it makes me SO happy that Danny's a Jersey boy!

I'd give poor Danny the Yankees, just so he can have a decent team :P

I'll be a Jersey picker. It's funny, I'm trying my hardest to get out of here, but I <3 NJ so much!

In the absense of a new H50 ep this week, I found myself watching Ocean's 11 because I needed to fill the Scott Caan void in my life. I do love me some Scott.

(followed one of your fics over from hawaii5_0slash and I think I have some icons you made :D )

I had a lot of fun watching Oceans 11 through 13. *g*
It was nice to see that Turk seemed to get more screen time as things went on, too.

Now that you've said that, I think I remember liking that about 12 and 13, I need to watch them too.

I didn't enjoy 12 quite as much as a film - but there was definitely more Scott-time which made up for it.
I particularly loved all the Scott bits in 13 - very adorakable. ♥

It has been way too long since I saw either of them to remember much. I used to have all three but a friend "borrowed" 12 and 13 and I didn't get them back :(

I'll just have to put them in my Netflix Queue for like March when the "madness" is going and they take my shows off the air for a month.
