My tooth is so sore, it's making the whole side of my face ache. :-(
I really wish now that I'd just had the tooth removed instead of letting the dentist talk me into getting a crown. It's not like it's visible anyway.
*sigh*
I think I need to curl up with a cuppa (drinking on one side & how easy is that - not!) & some good hurt/comfort McShep. Or just some lovely happy ending McShep or really, just some warm&snarky McShep.
*I'd grin but it makes my face hurt*

Anybody got any recs for me please?

Okay - sorry, didn't mean to be such a big moaner!

Five more minutes.

Just five more minutes, and then he'd get up and go for his morning run. Five more minutes, he just needed five more...

"Hut-choo!" One sneeze became three sneezes, and he groaned as he fumbled for the nearly-empty box of tissues on his bedside table. Then he groaned again, because God, even blowing his nose made his head throb and... maybe he was gonna need more than five more minutes.

The sound of his door chime woke him from a muzzy doze. He tried to tell whoever it was to go away, but his voice came out sounding like a croak, and the effort degenerated into a coughing fit that left him curled on his side and clutching at his head to keep it from splitting wide open. Then there was a hand on his shoulder, another on his forehead, and a familiar voice to go with them.

"John? Jesus, John, why the hell didn't you - no, never mind, of course you wouldn't call in sick. Or call Carson, for that matter. John? Colonel!"

"M'not sick," he managed, more or less, and even though his eyes were still closed he could hear Rodney rolling his eyes.

"No, of course, not. Healthy people accumulate a pile of kleenex as tall as their boots all the time! Not-sick people are always running a fever and coughing up a lung! And why would the fact that it's after eleven hundred and you're still in bed instead of at the mission briefing make me think that you're sick?" Rodney's hands, gentle as they rearranged the covers and smoothed back his hair, were a contrast to the bite and snap of his words.

There was no point in answering. Rodney would just bulldoze over anything he said, and it hurt his throat too much to talk. Besides, the sound of Rodney's snarking was oddly soothing, something that he was used to and could use to anchor himself. If Rodney was snarking, then they weren't about to die or be captured or be shot at or...

"Come on, wake up for a minute. I know you feel like crap, but you'll sleep a hell of a lot better if you swallow these first." Rodney's voice woke him again, and he pried his eyes open. "Aha, there you are. Come on. NyQuil. Carson says you need to take these and sleep. I could have told you that, but it's supposed to mean something more coming from a voodoo practitioner."

Again, Rodney's hands were gentle in contrast to his voice - though he was keeping his volume lower, thank God - as he helped John sit up enough to swallow the two blue-green capsules. He settled back against his pillow with a low moan, and felt a cool hand touch his forehead.

"You must really feel like hell," Rodney said softly, the bite and snap gone for the moment. "Lorne's handling things, and our mission's been postponed. Just, uh, you know, try to relax and sleep. Get better." He cleared his throat, and settled his other hand at John's nape. "I'll stay here for a while, in case you need anything."

John tried to protest, opened his mouth to say that Rodney didn't have to take time off to babysit him, but the hand at his nape started to move, and strong, nimble fingers started to massage the back of his head. It felt so good that he didn't even care about the embarrassing moan that slipped out instead of words.

He heard Rodney chuckle softly, and then soft lips touched his forehead. "Go to sleep, John. You'll feel better when you wake up. I'll stay here. You know, keep watch or something."

John's mouth tugged up at the corners. Keep watch. He let the sound of Rodney's voice and the wonderful pressure of strong fingers lull him past the pain in his head, and he drifted slowly to sleep.

Thank you so much - you've made me smile & forget my sore tooth!

He heard Rodney chuckle softly, and then soft lips touched his forehead. "Go to sleep, John. You'll feel better when you wake up. I'll stay here. You know, keep watch or something."

*happy sigh*
Thank you, that was incredibly kind of you.

You're very, very welcome. I'm an absolute sucker for h/c McShep, myself, and this one just popped into my head.

And I have to thank you, because your request got my muse out of bed and let me write something when I'd been drowning in writer's block. So. =)

I hope you're feeling very much better! *hugs*

Oh yes, I love a good h/c - especially when I'm hurting too! This was gorgeous. I really am so grateful & I'm also so happy you've starting knocking down that writer's block! I look forward to reading lots more of your lovely McShep. :-)

Thanks, sweetheart. I don't actually have anything like that in the house as I don't really drink but I really appreciate the thought. :-)

Aw, hope you feel better soon. You'll be glad for keeping it - for chewing later!

Sorry, I haven't been reading fic for a while - out of the loop a bit with recs. Hope you get some good ones though.

Yeah, I suppose it probably is better to rescue a tooth if possible - it just hurts right now!

My mouth hurts just at the thought of it. I hope the pain subsides soon and that the permanent crown is in place soon.

Thanks, sweetheart.
I'm just trying to manage it by being careful with what I eat & drink for now. I have the perm. crown fitted on the 15th, thank goodness!

The one I had pulled, the dentist wanted to save. Since I was paying out of pocket I could say no. There wasn't a health insurnce company to tell me "Do it or we won't cover it." And the maxillofacial surgeon that I had pull it, wouldn't have done it if I had been covered. Dentists are evil like that.

Question? If you're waiting for a crown, shouldn't it have been drilled and posted already? When they do a root canal, they drill out all the nerves that make it hurt. Hope you feel better, hon.

Sorry I don't have any good fic recs for you. I could write something but it'd probably be short and forced as mymuse seems to have deserted me.

I'll think on it though.

She drilled all around - just leaving the root, I assume. She put a temp crown on to protect it while the perm. one is being made but the temp one is useless & just keeps falling off. I'm just trying to manage the pain by watching what I eat & drink - it's the temperature that really sets it off.
Never mind - I get the perm. one in a week. Thank goodness.

Well, thank you for the thought - that's very kind. :-)

What's really bad is when your tooth is hurting so badly that is makes your EAR ache. Which is exactly what happened to me when I waited too long to go to the dentist to have my tooth fixed. :/

I hope you feel better soon! ♥

Ouch! It must really be throbbing then. :(
How much longer till you get it fixed? It took about a month for my permanents to come in.
