Making GIFs?

Sorry for being Spammy McSpamster today - it's a mood swing kind of thing. *g*

So, my head is too messed up to write or make graphics, but I've been looking for a certain GIF with no luck - & so I thought maybe I could just make my own.
Unfortunately, I don't know how & Googling it brings up seventy billion tutorials which all seem to involve me needing certain software or something else (like a functioning brain, perhaps. *g*)
But, anyway - can anyone link me to a really simple step-by-step tutorial on making a GIF please?
I've got a Mac & already have Photoshop CS5.  I also DLed Gimp the other day (so I could resize some GIFs made by other much cleverer folk) but I have no idea if I can use this to make my own. (Some tutorials talked about needing GAP for Gimp & I have no idea what that is/how to obtain it/how to install it on a Mac.)

Maybe this is all beyond my medicated cognitive processes? *g*

You should be able to make Gifs on GIMP if it is similar to the PC version. I don't remember it being too complicated. Pick out your images first, and import them as separate layers.

Sadly my PC died or I could talk you through the whole process. But if you have an android phone or tablet, there is a tutorial app that might make your life easier.

I'll give it a go. (I was hoping to be able to use vid files but perhaps I'll have to make separate caps & then animate them.)

The only thing I know about is, unfortunately, not available for a mac (Photoscape). But if you find a good tutorial, please post it because I will eventually be back on my mac and I'm also curious how to do it.
