The men came to begin installing the new boiler yesterday.  They took the old boiler out of the kitchen & all the cylinders & tanks out of the loft, too.  So, that meant no water or heating all day (though thankfully they reconnected the gas in the afternoon - so Bud & I camped out in the lounge with the gas fire on as it was freezing.)  We've had no central heating or hot water overnight (as there's no boiler! LOL) but hopefully they can install that today. There was also a hiccup when they must have disturbed some wiring in the loft because the circuit for all the lights blew & they couldn't get them back on. Luckily, the electrician was able to come back & sort it out - although this was at about 5.30 so we were using lamps & torches for a while! LOL

I'm envisioning another day of just camping out in the lounge, reading & trying to stay out of their way.  I don't like having my routine disrupted - I can't do my normal stuff! - but I'm making a real effort to be zen about it all & am actually coping quite well & not stressing out (even when we had no lights! LOL)

Just off to take Bud out now.  It's cold & raining, so I'm hoping the gas will be on when we get back!  (Or it's the emergency fan heater again! *g*)

Oh, & in much worse news - no new Spn this week!
*sob*

Happy Tuesday, folks!
*hugs*

Fingers crossed it's all installed when you come home!

I'm at home today, too. I have a fever, my throat hurts and I have a terrible cough :( On the upside, I'm watching Spn and reading McShep \o/

Well, we didn't have heating/hot water until Wed, but we managed - & now we do have a very nice new boiler & limitless hot water! Yay! *g*

Mmm, it would have to be the coldest day of the year so far, wouldn't it? !!

You seem to be coping admirably, though - just keep telling yourself it will be worth it when the glorious new kitchen is complete!!

Enjoy your walk.

Thanks, S.
The new boiler is all done & working beautifully. I'm glad we had it done now & not when the kitchen is going to be installed (in January) as having the whole house in uproar fills me with dread! At least this way it was only most of the house... *g*

Hope you come home to a warm and cozy house!

I should have stayed home myself--I took H out on a public, well-marked trail (both of us wearing blaze orange, just in case) only to spy a hunter tucked in a the base of a tree, covering the path with his rifle.

That was a heart-stopping moment, to be sure! Like seeing a rattlesnake at your feet and knowing you have to get you and your dog out it without anyone getting hurt. I called H and hustled him along the trail until we were back to the car--but that's it. No more going in the woods for me until deer season is over. :-(

Yikes! That is so scary! (The idea of guns is slightly surreal to me & I always get taken aback when we're on holiday & go somewhere like Walmart & suddenly there's an aisle of stuff like that! Eeep!)

The gun lobbyists and Second Amendment activists are quite strong here. And as one of my friends once pointed out, "dinner is always in season."

*sigh*

To be fair, I no longer violently object to deer hunting the way I used to. There are more deer in the US now than there were at the beginning of 1900 because they have no real predators and are effective fringe dwellers, happily moving into the suburbs and people's backyards. They are major vectors for Lyme disease and a huge cause of fatal car accidents.

What I mind is how during rifle season, any idiot with a gun can pick up a six pack and a case of shells, park themselves in the woods and take shots at anything that moves. An unimpeded bullet from a deer rifle can travel over a mile--and so the casual hunter, out for his one day a year of hunting, may be a little more prone to shoot at targets they can't actually see.

Not to mention the ugly belligerence I've run into. At one boarding farm where we kept the horses, the hunters were cutting the wire fences so they could cross the fields at night, and when the management posted new No Trespassing signs, they killed a deer and hung it on the fence as a warning. Nice, eh?

That's why I hustled H back to the car and pretended I didn't see the hunter. :-(

Blimey! That's pretty intimidating.

We do have hunting here - but I think it's much less prevalent (&, of course, the gun control is much wider reaching.)

I had some windows installed earlier this summer, so I know what you mean about your routine being disrupted by the work crew. Just think about how nice it will be when all the work is finished! :D

Yeah, it's funny how the whole house seems to get affected (even rooms they're not working in! LOL) The boiler is all done now & we're toasty warm. Of course, the kitchen renovation (in Jan) will likely take longer & be even messier, but it'll be so great when it's done. *fc*

I'm just a creature of habit, I think. I don't like upset. Still, it's been worth it to have limitless hot water & heating that's so much more efficient (& toasty! *g*)

Yeah, it's all done now & was definitely worth the fuss.
Now I just have to get myself ready for even more disruption in Jan when the kitchen renovation is done! *g*
