Keep on running

I went for a nice run this morning - it was a bit nippy but the sun was shining & my knee behaved itself. :-)
I'm stepping up my training at the mo & trying to get back some speed.
*crosses fingers*
I think that I really need to get an iPod or something like that as my discman is on its last legs & keeps skipping & cutting out on me. But as my LJ annual renewal is due next week & I've just paid some race fees (see below) I think this will have to wait. I do love running with music though, it really helps to keep my pace up. :-)
In other running news, I've signed up to run the Hydro Active Challenge in Sept again (it used to be known as the Flora Light Challenge).
It's only a 5K & I've run it for the past two years. It's a lot of fun & I run in aid of The Blue Cross animal charity.
Here's Rascal modelling my medal from last year. (g)

I've also signed up for the Race for Life 5K in June. This is in aid of Cancer Research UK & I'll be running in memory of my dear, dear Nan, Rosie. ♥
Hopefully I'll be able to raise a decent amount for each of these excellent charities & I'm also looking out for other races to try to raise more. :-)
Okay - back to writing an Orli companion piece to Discovery...

Date: 4 Apr 2005 08:36 am (UTC)It was so funny though, 'cus when I tried to take the medal off him he wanted to keep it. It's like anything in his possession for a millisecond - or anything he just looks at & likes - is automatically his! LOL
I've only run a few races so far & always just for fun & to raise some cash for charity. I'm not a great runner or anything.
Blast! My evil plan isn't working... (g)

Date: 4 Apr 2005 09:03 am (UTC)Btw - Big Mean Kitty is still a particular favourite as is Chicken Stu! (g)
And thank you - I'm trying to be more planned with my running & trying to fit in more races like these ones. I especially want to do the Cancer Research one for my Nan as she died of leukaemia.
Sponsors....
Date: 4 Apr 2005 09:03 am (UTC)I haven't run in anything since I left school. Team sports were just more my thing than running, but I need to get fitter so your reminders help urge me on to greater things.
I go to the gym on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays - forced into it by the doctor after the diabetes diagnosis in 2003, I wasn't really looking forward to having a regime of training but I can truly say it has made me feel so much better. I'm still not much of a runner but I want to give myself something to aim for so I may go in for the local Macmillan fun run in June...
in the meantime I want to sponsor you for your two events please.
Can you put me down for a fiver for each event?
Then let me know when you want the money in.
HUGS and keep on running - glad to hear your knee isn't playing up.
Sharon
Re: Sponsors....
Date: 4 Apr 2005 10:15 am (UTC)A fun run sounds good - you can just take it at your own pace & there'll be plenty of people just walking & making a fun day of it. Go for it! :-)
Thanks so much for the sponsoring, that's very, very kind. :-)
Re: Sponsors....
Date: 6 Apr 2005 10:03 am (UTC)32lbs...woo go you
I need to lose another 76lbs to be the 'correct' weight
have lost nearly 20lb (but still a size 20) so not too bad, but then I was absolutely huge to begin with ... as you know. Still huge, but less huge than before
Need to do lots of practise re running, still get winded to easily, especially once hay fever season starts (like now)
but as you say a fun run is a good start.
HUGS to you and the money will be winging its way to you shortly.
Sharon

Date: 7 Apr 2005 04:31 am (UTC)I hope you have a great time with the fun run - plus you can always walk if you find yourself too winded.
Thanks again for the sponsorship - though you can wait until I've actually done it if you prefer. :-)

I ran in Birmingham - there were about 3,000 the first year & nearly 5,000 last year. Did you run in Hyde Park? I bet that was amazing!
The great thing is that you can walk, run or whatever - everyone's just there to have fun & raise some money for charity. Despite it being a women's challenge there were even some men in drag running too! LOL
