Rascal Update
11 Jul 2007 02:02 pmI've just phoned the vet & Rask has had his X-rays & ultrasound but the nurse couldn't tell me anything. I have to go & pick him up at 4pm & Eliza (the vet) wants to speak to me. I have no idea if this is a good or bad thing. She'd said yesterday that the best case scenario was that it was bladder stones but as no surgery was done this morning, I don't know what this means or if we're looking at something better or worse.
Aaaagh! The next two hours are going to crawl by!
EDIT:
Update 2: Good news (mainly)!!!

Rascal update 2
11 Jul 2007 05:15 pmI've just got in & had to quickly feed Rask as he was starving (no food since last night!)
Well, it's pretty much good news with just the possibility of bad.
The x-ray was completely clean - no stones or tumours or anything else. So Eliza is thinking that it's a very severe case of cystitis - hence the heavy bleeding (she said it was bad bleeding.) She's started him on a pretty intensive 11 day course of antibiotics & anti-inflammatories to try to clear this up. She should get the urine analysis back in a few days too & that can tell us more. I have to take him back on Friday for a follow-up. She did say that they can't completely rule out the possibility of there being something else (cancer) somewhere that it's not showing. She wants to see how he responds to the treatment but if it doesn't seem to be working then she can refer him to a vet hospital that can do an endoscopy. She wants to hang back on that for the moment though because of his age. Plus his blood work was all completely normal - she said he was like a five year old & that he was in really good condition.
I'm so, so relieved (I actually cried with relief when she told me!) but obviously we have to see how he goes & so I have this other thing at the back of my mind.
But anyway - for now, Rask is home, he's happy & is now sleeping off his scrambled eggs (a light meal after the anaesthetic!)
Thank you to everyone for their hugs & support today. I really do appreciate it. I was going mad with worry all day & you've helped to keep me sane.
*hugs flist*
I'll update after his follow-up on Friday.
