Of writing, swimming & running

After feeling like I just couldn't write anything for the last few months, I'm excited to have written a few things in the last week. I've managed to finish the little sequel to 'Atlantis' that I began a while back, plus I'm working on another stand alone McShep Earthside fic. Yay! (Well, I feel like it's 'yay!' anyway. Everyone else may just be 'oh, boy!'. *g*)

My swimming lessons are going pretty well, I think. My back stroke is improving & this week the instructor had me start on the front crawl. Unfortunately he's only shown me the legs & breathing part so far - no arms! So I'm using a float & practising. It was a bit weird to put my face down into the water at first & just turn to the side to breathe but I'm finding a rhythm with it now. Hopefully next week's lesson will include 'arms'! LOL

I'm running in the Hydroactive Challenge in Brimingham on Sunday, raising money for The Blue Cross animal charity. It's only a 5K & is always a lot of fun. Fingers crossed for good weather!
My running is going really well at the moment. I'm keeping my mileage up in preparation for another marathon in the Spring, plus I'm working to improve my speed. I'm doing 4 running sessions a week with 2 cross-training sessions of swimming, plus some weights & ab work.
I'm also happy to say that I've managed to work off the few extra pounds I gained during our fabulous US road holiday last month. :-)

Hmmmph. Still waiting for my Supernatural s2 to arrive.
*looks impatiently at letter box*
Where are you, Winchester boys?

This is really unrelated to anything you just said, but I'm wondering if you've been fit your whole life (played sports in school, always was active in some way since) or if only in the last several years decided to start running and getting in shape. I ask because nothing I do makes me want to keep exercising and I'm curious if running was something you discovered and really enjoyed or if its been a life-long habit.

Oh, I was hopeless at sport at school. I always wanted to be good & would try so hard but I was awful - couldn't throw, catch, hit or anything. *g*
When I was older I joined gyms or did aerobic classes, that kind of thing, whenever I felt I ned to lose a few pounds. But I'd always lose interest after a while. Then about 4-5 years ago I started to run. I don't even know why I did it - I just went out one day & ran for 10 minutes. I found I really enjoyed it & now it's grown into something that I love to do & I even did a marathon. :-)
Of course, it really helps me to stay in shape too - when I initially began I lost over 30 pounds & have kept that weight off. I feel so much better in myself & even got rid of a chronic back problem!
I hope this helps.
*hugs*

As someone who didn't learn to swim until I was 19 years old, I give you major kudos for giving it a shot. Once you learn, you wonder how you got along for so many years without knowing! :)

I'm so glad your muses have returned. I'm still waiting patiently for mine.

I did learn as a kid but then just sort of forgot what to do. *g* I ended up flailing around doing some made up stroke of my own which was awful. I've hardly swam at all as an adult but just decided that I wanted to - & to know how to do it properly. I'm absolutely thrilled - I've never even done something like the back stroke before. *g*

Hope your muses come home soon!
*hugs*

Dude, that's definitely a 'yay'!!

And, did you get delivery notification for SGA S3 and ADB? Mine came through yesterday and I actually squeed so loudly that Miss P ran away!

Um, I may be a tad overwrought about this... ;-)

Thanks, S!
I'm hoping to get a place in the London Marathon but if not, I'll try for something else. :-)

I'm still waiting for the next fic in the Fates universe! Though I hate to be one of those people who tells the writers what to write. :) ♥♥♥

Good luck on the Hydroactive Challenge!

Aw, sorry - I do intend to write more Fates & actually have the notes written for the next story. Maybe now that I seem to be back in a writing mood, I can get moving with it. :-)
