Another Half-M

Registration opened yesterday morning at 9am for the Royal Parks Half Marathon in London this October.
After three & a half hours of frustration & the site constantly crashing due to the huge numbers trying to get a place, I was finally able to get places for me & Mr B!
We decided to run this race as all our attempts at getting places in the London Marathon have so far failed & we really liked the idea of doing a 'big' race like this around the gorgeous sights of London.
The route starts in Hyde Park & goes past the Houses of Parliament, along the Embankment up to Blackfriars, through Admirality Arch, down the Mall, past Buckingham Palace & through the Wellington Arch, back into Hyde Park past Marble Arch, into Kensington Park, past Kensington Palace & the Royal Albert Hall before finishing back in Hyde Park. It sounds amazing & should be loads of fun!

We're hoping to run this race to raise money for Labrador Rescue South East & Central - the rescue organisation we got our beautiful Buddy from! ♥

We love running & it's just so great to combine it with helping out good causes too. :-)

Bud sends love, snuggles and, of course, big Buddy hugs!! *g*

That sounds like a neat run! Although isn't the air quality in London pretty bad? I should think that would make running difficult, if so.

That picture just begs for a funny caption, too bad I can't come up with one.

I'm going to start converting your fic for Kindle (apparently you gave permission previously?) and was wondering: is the McShep memories on Starshinedreams all of your McShep fics? Or should I use the tags instead?

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The air quality in London isn't too bad - for a big city anyway. I mean it's not smog or anything like that. But the great thing with this route is that it goes through four royal parks - Kensington, Hyde, Green & St. James's! Cool!

Oh, yay - you're doing my fics? Thank you so much.
*hugs*
I have tried to put all the fics in memories, so in theory the memories should match up with the mckay/sheppard tag. Um, in theory. *g*
I don't know if you're doing my little Hewligan series as well? That has it's own tag - http://community.livejournal.com/starshinedreams/tag/fates+universe (just in case you are. *g*)

I adore this pic of Bud - Xanthe took it when she was staying with us not long after we'd had Bud & he's lying against me on the floor. He looks so daft! ♥

[identity profile] celtprincess13.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Bud=such a sweetie!

Yep, I plan to convert all your stuff, but I'm gonna start with the McShep stuff first, since I don't think we have any SGA fic posted on the comm yet.

Do you have a Kindle? I just got one and dang, it is just the neatest thing! Kind of an expensive toy, but very, very cool.

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you're a star - thank you! ♥

I don't have a Kindle but I do have a BeBook which is a similar kind of thing I believe. It's so much easier to read than my old PDA - it actually looks like a printed page. :-)

That's awesome. Hope it's fun (and it doesn't rain).

I’m curious – and this is probably just plain ignorance, stupidity, etc. – but are there different kinds of Labradors? Buddy looks different than any labs I’ve ever seen before. Is there a difference between the European and USA variety?

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's October in England - so it could go either way (more chance of rain in all honestly! LOL)

I don't think that the European & North American Labs are different (not to my knowledge) but you do get two different kinds of Lab. There's the 'field' or 'working' type - like Rascal was. These tend to have 'pointier' faces & are quite lean, they're bred to be active working dogs for hunting, etc. (Though they also make fabulous family dogs!)
Rascal ♥ ...

Then there's the somewhat confusingly called 'English' or 'show' type (but you get these in the US too! *g*) - like Buddy. They have much squarer faces & are typically bred for the show ring.

Buddy is a really huge dog though - we seldom ever meet another Lab who even comes up to his shoulder! He has a big head & enormous paws! So that maybe why it's a bit confusing. *g*

Buddy ♥ ...

[identity profile] becs8.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, that explains it. I'm from Indiana so there are a lot (and I mean a lot) of hunting dogs. They all have the pointy features you were describing. And yes, they do make great family pets. I used to have one myself.

Buddy is adorable btw :o)

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-03-26 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think Labs are fabulous family dogs - it really doesn't matter which kind. Rascal was a working type but he was the silliest, sweetest boy & now we have Bud who would probably run wild in a show ring *g* & is also silly & sweet! ♥

Buddy sends licks & snuggles! ♥

Awww that's awesome. You guys are going to do so good.

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! We're really looking forward to it. :-)

[identity profile] lijahlover.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 06:48 am (UTC)(link)
Awwww Buddy's so cute!

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-03-27 09:09 am (UTC)(link)
He really is. *g* LOL

[identity profile] rifleman-s.livejournal.com 2009-03-28 07:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that's great news - I know you were both disappointed about the London Marathon, but actually this sounds a much nicer route!!

Will you be setting up a sponsorship page nearer the time? Hope so, or I'll make a donation direct to the LRSC&E.

*hugs*

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
It does sound a lovely route, doesn't it? We're going to keep trying for the London Marathon but this will be very nice in the interim. :-)

Oh, thank you so much - yes, I'm hopefully going to set up a justgiving page for the run closer to the date. We really want to try & raise some funds for them as they're getting more & more dogs to rehome at the moment because of the financial climate. It costs nearly £300 to rehome each dog plus they have some who are abuse/neglect cases & they require a lot of medical care. It's such a good cause & we'll be forever grateful to them for uniting us with Buddy. ♥

That route does sounds so amazing. You and Mr. B are also amazing for doing this.

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-04-02 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you!
*blushes*
We just love to run & it's a great way to try & raise funds for good causes. :-)

OMG! I know Buddy is a lab, but I had NO IDEA he was so BIG! Holy cow that dog is a monster :) lol
A big shiny beautiful monster :)
He makes Kane look little and he's a pitt bull/bull mastiff mix.
But buddy is super cute!

[identity profile] bluespirit-star.livejournal.com 2009-04-15 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
I know! He's the biggest Lab I've ever seen - whenever we meet other Labs he always towers over them. *g* People always comment on him - they also tend to ask how we keep him so slim too. I could make a fortune writing 'The Buddy Plan' diet book for dogs! LOL (Not really - it's just healthy food & lots of exercise! *g*)
Rascal was a big Lab but even he wasn't the size of Bud!
Of course he's also a great big silly, softie of a boy. ♥

*cuddles for Kane*
