bluespirit: (Keep on running)
Mr B & I are still waiting to hear if we've got places for the London Marathon next April.
We sent our applications in a couple of months ago & they draw the ballot & let you know by the end of Nov/early Dec. (It's incredibly oversubscribed.)
When we applied there was a box you could check to say that you were willing to donate your subscription fee (£32 each), even if you didn't get a place. Everyone making this donation would be eligible for a draw for an additional 1000 places. We checked the box. Our cheques have been cashed but that doesn't mean anything, of course, as they'll have our money either way. (I don't mind - it helps the marathon charity.)
I just really, really hope we get places. If not then I think we'll apply for the Edinburgh Marathon or I wouldn't mind running the Shakespeare Marathon again as it was a lot of fun (& there's no ballot! *g*) It's just that London is so iconic - we'd really love to run that one. :-)

In the meantime, my swimming lessons are going well. I was moved into the intermediate group & am learning breast stroke now. Wow, it's complicated with the legs & the arms & everything! *g* I think I prefer the front crawl & back stroke right now but I'm determined to master it. :-)

Good luck to the amazing [livejournal.com profile] meri_oddities for tomorrow's NY Marathon!
Keep on running! Yay!

I've had a very nice 'early birthday' today - my in-laws came round this afternoon for tea & cake, as they can't make it tomorrow. I'm saving my cards & prezzies until tomorrow but they brought me a big helium balloon with '40' on it - I love it!! *g*
Mr B has also given me a dozen long-stemmed red roses. He said he couldn't really hide them until tomorrow but that I just shouldn't look at them! LOL

I'm off to my swimming lesson this evening. I got moved into the intermediate class a couple of weeks ago. I was really pleased as I'd only been having lessons for 5 weeks.
This new class concentrates on technique a lot, which is what I really want to improve. I also swam underwater for the first time last week. We had to swim through a hoop - it was so much fun (I'm lame, I know! *g*) I'm really pleased with how my crawl & back stroke are progressing too.

I'm still looking for a big HD version of Doppelganger to make screen caps from.
Found!
I've been waiting to squee until I could illustrate it *g* but no luck so far.
I was really pleased with the quality & size of the 700MB version that I used to make the Lifeline caps.
Obviously, I'll post them as soon as I get the file & can cap it.

I ♥ Doppelganger so much.
#1. Slashiest. Ep. Ever!!!

I went for my swimming lesson last night. As I expected it was time to add arms into the front crawl legs & breathing. Yikes! It's like learning to drive a car again & trying to synchronise everything!
I must admit that I did find it a bit tricky - especially trying to get the 'head in the water, turn to the side to breathe' thing too. I went along this morning to the open session & practised some more but I felt so tired. I don't know if yesterday's run & swim had tired me out (I did fall asleep on the sofa last night *g*)!

Still no sign of my Supernatural dvds. :-(
*sad sigh*

Oh, I wrote a prompt fic for [livejournal.com profile] lavvyan. John's had a bad day - a little comfort ficlet.

Need a blue sky holiday

Good news - I finally got notification from Amazon that they've posted my SGA s3 & 'A Dog's Breakfast' dvds! Yay!!! I paid for expedited shipping, so I hope they get here quickly. I'm still waiting for my Supernatural s2 & that was posted on the 5th! Grrrr.

I went for a really lovely run this morning, along to our local stately home & around the lake & home. It was brisk but the sun was shining & it was so nice to see all the wildfowl on the water.
I have my swimming lesson tonight - hopefully he'll show me the arms to go with the front crawl legs & breathing that I learnt last week! Then I'll go to my usual practice session tomorrow morning.

I've posted an angsty!Rodney fic over at my other lj. Though, you know me, it's all going to work out for the best in the end. *g*

Click on the angst...

He closed his eyes for a moment at the memory of John walking away from him, back stiff and more painfully eloquent than any faltering words.

I'm also offering a prompt fic to anyone who can guess the song that originally inspired me. *g*

bluespirit: (SGA P.S. if this is?)
After feeling like I just couldn't write anything for the last few months, I'm excited to have written a few things in the last week. I've managed to finish the little sequel to 'Atlantis' that I began a while back, plus I'm working on another stand alone McShep Earthside fic. Yay! (Well, I feel like it's 'yay!' anyway. Everyone else may just be 'oh, boy!'. *g*)

My swimming lessons are going pretty well, I think. My back stroke is improving & this week the instructor had me start on the front crawl. Unfortunately he's only shown me the legs & breathing part so far - no arms! So I'm using a float & practising. It was a bit weird to put my face down into the water at first & just turn to the side to breathe but I'm finding a rhythm with it now. Hopefully next week's lesson will include 'arms'! LOL

I'm running in the Hydroactive Challenge in Brimingham on Sunday, raising money for The Blue Cross animal charity. It's only a 5K & is always a lot of fun. Fingers crossed for good weather!
My running is going really well at the moment. I'm keeping my mileage up in preparation for another marathon in the Spring, plus I'm working to improve my speed. I'm doing 4 running sessions a week with 2 cross-training sessions of swimming, plus some weights & ab work.
I'm also happy to say that I've managed to work off the few extra pounds I gained during our fabulous US road holiday last month. :-)

Hmmmph. Still waiting for my Supernatural s2 to arrive.
*looks impatiently at letter box*
Where are you, Winchester boys?
