bluespirit: (Supernatural ~ Dean anim good morning)
It's been a while since I've posted. LJ (& DW) don't have the same vibrancy as they used to for me - which isn't helped by me not posting either, I know. I can hardly complain about my sense of loss of community when I'm not posting much myself!
Anyhoo - a little update on things at Chez Buddy.

Bud's doing really well. He's living with severe IBD, but his latest meds seem to have really helped & he's gained back all of the weight that he lost. He's so well that some of his other meds have been reduced or removed completely. This time last year, he was such a poorly boy & we didn't think that he'd make it, but he's such a fighter. He's on a prescription diet, but his appetite has come back & he's really enjoying life. Although he is a bit of an old man now - he's 11 & 1/2 - & so he does snooze quite a bit! ♥

Here he is on one of our favourite walks. It's a National Trust hill range & woodland that's 5 minutes walk from our door.

I'm doing really well, too. I saw my oncologist a few weeks ago & he's very happy with my scans & blood tests. I have to go back in the autumn for some more extensive scans, but so far things are looking very good. *fc*

Mr B, Bud & myself are off on our holibobs in a week or so. We've hired a cottage in Northumberland that overlooks the sea & you can see Dunstanburgh Castle (a gorgeous ruin) along the coast. So, it's going to be lovely morning walks on the beach & lots of other exploring - Hadrian's Wall & castles galore! Yay!

I hope that everyone is doing well. I do try & keep an eye on my flist & reading circle, even if I don't always comment.

I'm home from a fabulous holiday in the US deep south.
We road-tripped through Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi & down to New Orleans.  Lots of Civil War battlefields & museums, a little hiking, a lovely trip on a paddlesteamer & zooming through the bayous on an airboat spotting 'gators! Woohoo! Tremendous fun.

We also visited the ruins of an antebellum plantation house that had been destroyed by fire in the 1890s.  Only the huge, intricate pillars remain.  It was so atmospheric. We loved it.

I finally managed to write my story for my annual writing weekend in Sept! (I sent it in with 5 hours to spare! LOL)
I wrote the first draft last week while Bud & I had a super week by the sea with various lovely friends including [livejournal.com profile] lantean_drift, [livejournal.com profile] xanthe, [livejournal.com profile] carnelianred, [livejournal.com profile] saffron1 & [livejournal.com profile] battyoldflapper.
We hired a beautiful house in Southwold, only 5 mins walk from the beach. It was smashing & so relaxing.
While there, I shocked [livejournal.com profile] saffron1 by mentioning that I'd never read any Harry Potter (& I've only seen the first 2 films. *g*)  Being the only non-Potter person there, I decided to give The Philosopher's Stone a go... I'm now halfway through The Order of the Phoenix!!  I'm absolutely loving them!

Here are a few of pics of Bud enjoying his holibobs. ♥

Belatedly (very!) - here are a few quite a lot of photos from our summer road trip around Tennessee!
We had the most amazing (& varied) holiday.
Tennessee is a fabulous state - we loved it.

We've been to some awe inspiring places in North America - Rocky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Arches National Park in Utah, Shenandoah, to name a few - but The Great Smoky Mountains are the most beautiful & breathtaking that we've ever experienced.

lots more pics )

These are just a few of the highlights - we had such a wonderful holiday.
I ♥ Tennessee! :)
bluespirit: (Hello!Teddy)
It's been a while since I posted.
During that time, we've had a fabulous holiday in Tennessee, I've been to my annual writing weekend, & last Sunday we attended the Dogs' Party & Fun Dog Show held every year by the Lab rescue where we got Bud.
Sheriff Buddy came 2nd in the fancy dress (& 5th in the sausage & spoon race! *g*)

Oh, & we caught some reruns of Community while we were in the States & have become addicted.  We're currently blasting our way through the first 5 seasons (on season 3 right now.) Love it!

Hope everyone is happy & well.
I promise not to be such a stranger.

[livejournal.com profile] sgamadison posted a meme where you list 'three positive things in your life today', & so I thought I'd join in.

1.  I'm loving the SGA... Ten Years Later Fest.  I haven't been active in fandom for a while & my muse has deserted me, but seeing so many SGA posts on my flist has reminded me of how much I love the show - & John & Rodney in particular, of course.  It's even inspired me to write a little something (a very teeny, tiny something - but it's something! *g*)  I'll try & post it later.  Oh, & [livejournal.com profile] popkin16 posted some awesome Rodney-centric gifs yesterday that just made me laugh so much.

tumblr_n49ctaeDLa1qe6fpuo2_250

I had to repost this one as this saying has become a part of the Bluespirit Family lexicon. *g*

2.  Holiday planning!  Mr B & I are off to Tennessee in a couple of weeks & I'm loving researching what we'll be doing!  So much fabulous stuff to see & do - The Great Smoky Mountains, Nashville, Shiloh & Chickamauga National Battlefields - &, of course, Dollywood! *g*

3.  My baby Bud - he brings me joy & laughter every single day. I love him so much.

We've been away for a few days walking with Bud in Scotland.
We had a lovely time, despite having some very mixed weather! *g*

We're home after a fabulous few days down in Tenby, South Wales!
We've done some gorgeous walks, & Bud has played on the beaches to his heart's content. ♥

So, what's been happening while I've been away? *g*

It's been over 15 years since we've been to Cornwall & I have no idea why we haven't been back for so long - Cornwall is such a beautiful, magical county; I absolutely love it.  I especially love the British coast in the off-summer months & Oct/Nov was a perfect time to visit.

We stayed on the northern coast just outside of Perranporth with just a 5 minute walk to the beach.  It was perfect, & we walked along the beach every morning into the little village to the bakery for fresh baked bread & cakes! Yum!

We had such a fabulous time & were blessed with gorgeous, sunny weather on the Tuesday & just very good luck for the rest of the time! (Well, we did get hailed on twice - but only for 10 minutes! LOL)  The weather was so nice on that Tues that we sat outside for a cream tea at the little National Trust tea room at Bedruthan Steps.  (We'd done a smashing 7 mile walk along the coast & felt we deserved it *g*- & Bud definitely enjoyed sitting there & scoffing any crumbs of scone that happened to fall his way! LOL)

It was a really lovely break, & Bud had a wonderful time, too - running on the beach, checking out caves, being admired & fussed by other hikers, etc, etc; the usual Bud type stuff!

some pics... )

We definitely won't be waiting another 15 years to visit again! *g*

We're home from our fabulous week down in beautiful Cornwall (more on that later with pics of Bud enjoying himself on the beach!)

This is just a quick check-in.  I was without internet access & so wasn't able to see how everyone in the path of Sandy is doing.  I hope you guys are all okay!
*hugs*

And thank you to [livejournal.com profile] equusentric, [livejournal.com profile] trystings, [livejournal.com profile] hilde,[livejournal.com profile] tarlanx, [livejournal.com profile] melodysparks & [livejournal.com profile] lee_ashburn for my yummy pumpkin cookies!!  I've come home to a huge scrummy feast on my profile page! *g*

We're off on holiday tomorrow - heading down to Cornwall for a few days so that Bud can run on the beach & have a grand old time. :)

It does mean that I won't be around to post you know what with those sexy Winchester boys on Thurs morning.  Sorry - I'll post it over the weekend, once we're home.

Have a great week, folks!

We had a really fabulous holiday touring around Pennsylvania, Maryland & northern Virginia last month.

We did a lot of hiking - including a few stretches of The Appalachian Trail - & also visited several Civil War battlefields & sites - Gettysburg, Shippensburg, Chambersburg, Antietam, Manassas, Chancellorsville, Cedar Creek, Monocacy - as well as the wonderful National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg. To break up the Civil War theme *g* we also visited Bushy Run - a Pontiac War battlefield - & the National Museum of the Marine Corps (which was excellent.) Oh, & we dropped into Hershey's Chocolate World where the one ride we went on broke down & we had to be escorted off through the back stage area! LOL (We missed out on a free chocolate at the end of the ride, too. Boo!)  We went to a baseball game in Erie (our first ever) - go, Seawolves, go! *\o/* - which was tremendous fun, especially as it was their annual 'Bark at the Park' & people could bring their dogs along! Yay!
Plus we sought out our usual collection of roadside Americana like the world's largest quarter & also visited a so-bad-it's-good 'Dinosaurland'! LOL

Anyhoo, here are just a few pics...

And after all that - Happy Monday, folks!

We're home from a fabulous holiday in the USofA. :)
We had a wonderful time but it is good to be home with Bud again.

I'm feeling rather jet-lagged & fuzzy around the edges but am slowly getting back to good old GMT! (Well, +1 for summer time. *g*)
And maybe it's because I'm feeling a bit over-tired but I got back to a 'you've been defriended' notification from LJ & it upset me a bit. I was really surprised to see that this person had defriended me & have no idea why.
So... if anyone does want to defriend* me (& that's fine - I'm not being a special snowflake about it) then please do (just do it now while I'm expecting it. *g*) Thank you!

Happy Tuesday, folks!
*hugs*

* A little heads-up. I'm afraid that I won't be uploading eps of H5-O when the new season begins. (If anyone needs the eps then do check out - & join - [livejournal.com profile] hawaiifive_0_tv.) So, if you're mainly here for 5-O eps & would prefer to defriend me then I completely understand.

I will still be uploading Spn as it airs.

I'm home! (And enjoying rapturous snuggles with the Budster! ♥ )

We had the most fabulous holiday with so many cool/interesting/fabulous experiences - two black bears in Shenandoah, a Space Shuttle in DC, more civil war battlefields than you can shake a stick musket at, truly awesome class V rapids, the Liberty Bell, running up the 'Rocky' steps, dinosaurs!, glorious hiking, covered bridges, pie! - & an [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison, to boot! \o/

I'll make a proper post (with pics) in a few days when I've had time to get sorted out - & get to answering email, comments, etc. Apologies in advance - it's going to take me a while to get caught up.
Oh, & there's all the great fic & art over at [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match (go, Team Sheppard!) & fic at [livejournal.com profile] sheppard_hc, too! :)

We've come home to some sad news, too, though - my uncle passed away while we were gone. I'd visited him just before we left, but he took a turn for the worse.
The funeral is tomorrow - I'm so glad that at least we're here to say goodbye.

I hope everyone is well & happy. ♥
