bluespirit: (SGA John Hey Rodney!)
I have a busy weekend ahead.
This evening we're out for dinner & then seeing 'The Ladykillers' at the Malvern Festival theatre.
And tomorrow my lovely [personal profile] xanthe  is arriving for a few days visit - I expect that we'll talk & laugh ourselves hoarse, as usual, & probably squeeze some shopping in there at some point, too. *g*

So, I'll be a little quiet online this weekend, but you may well be able to hear the chatter & squee anyway. ;)

Wishing everyone a happy & fun weekend!
*hugs*

The Olympic Torch Relay was in our area over the weekend, & so we took Buddy (& my Mom! LOL) along to see it.
We got there 2 hours before it was due, but the atmosphere was so great that the time just flew by. There were hundreds (probably thousands) of people there with flags & blow-up torches & flames.  It was a real party.  Bud wore a Union Flag bow & got lots (& lots!) of attention & fuss.
We staked out a great spot ('Our Bit of Gutter'! LOL) & had a fabulous view when the torch came along.  There were lots of relay-related vehicles first with everyone in them waving - plus the bus with the future relay people & their torches in it - it was like a mini parade.  Then the torch arrived, carried by a young woman who looked to be having a fabulous time.  We all waved our Union flags & cheered & shouted, & although we only saw the torch for a few seconds, it was really exciting & actually quite moving.
The whole experience of the afternoon & all these people joining together to celebrate was just lovely. I'm really glad we went - as everyone keeps saying, 'it's a once in a lifetime event'! :)

Here's Bud (wearing his Union Flag bow *g*)

A few more pics of the Budlington... )

The torch relay had started that morning from Derby & called in at the National Memorial Arboretum.  As this was Armed Forces Day, it was especially poignant.  The torch was carried by Corporal Johnson Beharry VC & he took it to the Armed Forces Memorial ('The Wall') for a minute's silence.  (There's a nice little clip at the BBC website here.)

We visit the National Memorial Arboretum quite regularly as my Dad was in the Royal Air Force.  In fact, we were there a few weeks ago for the annual dedication service of the RAF Association Remembrance Garden where there's a cross for my Dad (we're having a stone laid shortly, as well.)  It had been planned to be an open air ceremony, but unfortunately the weather was really bad & so the service was moved into a marquee.  The RAF concert band accompanied the hymns & a bugler played The Last Post.  It was a lovely service.  Luckily, the weather didn't stop the fly-past by a Hercules!

Some pics... )

Happy Monday, folks! :)

A mystery

bluespirit: (SGA huh!John)
Has anyone happened to send me a book from Waterstones?
One arrived yesterday & I didn't order it & neither did Mr B.
I got in touch with Waterstones - expecting that they could check their records & see if it had been sent to me in error - but they're being pretty useless & have suggested I check in case it was sent as a gift.  I'd have thought it would have said so on the invoice, if that was the case, but it doesn't.

It's 'The Guardians of the Covenant' by Tom Egeland.  (It actually looks quite interesting. *g*)

So, on the off chance, just thought I'd check here.  I'd like to know who to say 'thank you' to.  :)

I hope everyone has had a lovely festive time & is well & happy.
*hugs*

We had a lot of fun here at Chez Bud.
Bud was especially excited opening all of his presents (& then trying to open ours, too!) ♥

It was like Xmas exploded all over the lounge… )

I won't be around much for the next few days as I have to go into hospital - again. *groan* It's an exploratory procedure & should only be for a day, but it's a general anaesthetic & they say they may need to keep me in. Hopefully, that won't happen! *fc*

Take care, everyone!

Advent

1 Dec 2011 12:27 pm
bluespirit: (SGA McShep all I want)
For the past few years, I've done an 'SGA Advent' where I post something (a story or piece of art or a fanmix) every day from Dec 1st - 24th. I've loved doing it, despite there being a lot of work in creating 24 fics/graphics/etc, & have enjoyed the fun of getting into the holiday spirit.
Unfortunately, I won't be doing my Advent this year - I'm still struggling with some health problems & am having a tough time being creative. I have managed to finish my contribution to this year's [livejournal.com profile] sga_art_santa though & am currently working on my piece for [livejournal.com profile] h5o_art_santa, so that's something.
I do have a little McShep AU that I'd love to write - I'm hoping that I can do it in time & post it as a holiday gift for my flist. *fc*

So, sorry for the lack of my Advent. :(

I hope everyone is having a lovely start to December.
*hugs*
Here's a bit of festive!Bud from last year. ♥

bluespirit: (Hello!Teddy)
I want to apologise for the emails & comments that I owe replies.
I'm having a bit of a tough time* right now, but I'd hate for anyone to think that I'm ignoring them or that I don't care.
Similarly, I'm not really posting or interacting much on LJ. I am doing my best to keep up with sharing media though because I know some folk rely on that to get eps. But please forgive me if I don't do much else.

Of course, I may pop back up at any time with new fic, if when I can get my head on straight enough to write.
*fc*
I'm not leaving LJ or fandom or anything like that. I just wanted to explain what's going on with me, that's all. Hopefully, things will improve soon.
*hugs*

Happy Hallowe'en everyone!

Here's my contribution to the big SGA Scare over at [livejournal.com profile] sgaartvalentine.

'McShepguins - trick or treat'

Teaser:

~

I've been rather under the weather for the last few days, so I'm behind on answering comments & emails (sorry!) & haven't had chance to say a big thank you for all spiders crawling around my profile. I'm usually pretty scared of spiders, but these little guys are too cute to make me run away screaming. *g*

I've also managed to miss [livejournal.com profile] vagabondage's birthday! Sorry, Zen - I hope you had a fabulous day! ♥
*hugs*

And Supernatural...

It was my birthday yesterday, & I had a really lovely day.
There were balloons & flowers & lots of lovely cake & chocolates! *g*
Some young nieces & nephews visited, so I lit the candles on my cake so that they could blow them out. (Fortunately it was two '4' candles & not 44 individual candles or it would have posed a fire risk! *g*)

Buddy gave me the Thor dvd (he's such a clever pup!) & Mr B (as well as flowers, chocs & balloons!) had had a heart-shaped pendant made for me with an etched image of my baby Bud! ♥ (I love it!)

I had so many lovely birthday wishes via snail mail, email, e-card, LJ messaging & personal posts - & my profile page is awash with yummy chocs & tipples & sparkles & prezzies & flowers!

I also had some lovely 'hand-made' gifts:

A warm & snuggly McShep 'Cabin' fic from [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison

A beautiful 'John & Atlantis' wallpaper from [livejournal.com profile] berryann

A cheeky kissagram!John from [livejournal.com profile] vida_boheme

A gorgeous little McShep ficlet from the 'Entangled Particles' universe by [livejournal.com profile] zinfic

Thank you so, so much! (I think I've managed to thank everyone individually but please give me a nudge if I've overlooked anyone - it's my age, you know. *g*)

And my birthday keeps on going as I got a gorgeous bouquet of roses delivered this morning from my lovely [livejournal.com profile] xanthelj!

I am so very lucky to have such a wonderful group of friends.
Thank you all for making my day so special. ♥

Nathan Drake thing still alive? Oh Hollywood. Working on Fringe right now. Trying to get my small head around their mythology.

Yay! I love Fringe! It'll be so cool to see Joe! ♥

My current fandom obligations status:

+ [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match art is done! \o/ I just need to sort out the submission info & send it in. Go, Team Sheppard! *\o/*
I had so much fun with the prompt I got. Hee! Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.
Hmmm, I wonder if anyone will be able to guess which piece is mine? *g*

+ [livejournal.com profile] sheppard_hc exchange story has kicked my bum all over the place but the first draft is nearly complete (today, I hope. *fc*)

+ I think I'm going to have to pull out of [livejournal.com profile] atlantisbigbang as the prompt claiming dates have been shifted to accommodate the authors (which I can understand, of course, but now they don't work for me). So, claiming now falls while we're away on holiday. The mods have kindly offered to claim a story for me, but that would mean me having no real choice (you know how it is, you need to read the summaries, etc for yourself.) I've taken part in the last 3 big bangs (all 3 as an artist plus the last 2 as an author, too) so it's a shame, but I don't think I can work around it. :(

+ The SGA Art Shindig & the Five-O Fiesta have both been completed. \o/

I've posted master lists of all the art shared:
SGA Shindig
Five-O Fiesta

Everything ran pretty smoothly, & there was a really great selection of art to enjoy at both comms. ♥

Just got back from the hospital & my biopsy results are all clear.
*huge sigh of relief*
So, after two potential cancer scares & major surgery all in the last couple of months, I'll be very happy not to have to see the inside of a hospital again for quite a while ever. :)

Thanks so much to everyone for their good wishes & support, & I hope I haven't been too boring about all of this. I've really tried to stay positive & upbeat.

I am so happy!
I managed to walk around the woods with Bud & Mr B this morning for the first time since my op. \o/
I took it slowly & we didn't do our usual 4 mile route door to door but I did a couple of miles & it was fabulous.
The fields are full of poppies & the sun was shining & it was all so glorious. ♥
Bud seemed especially excited, too as I haven't been able to go there with him for over three weeks (it's just been Bud & his dad up there before 6am every morning!) He was leaping around like a mad thing. LOL

me stuff )

I also had such a lovely McShep-y day yesterday. ♥
I watched 'Echoes' & 'Tao of Rodney', posted my pic spam, made icons for Team Sheppard in the [livejournal.com profile] mcshep_match icon challenge, started to think about the McShep prompt ficlets I plan to write & generally had a lovely day immersed in the adorableness that is John & Rodney. \o/

I hope everyone is having a lovely weekend!
